The hot towel shave is the oldest service in any barbershop, and the one most worth doing slowly. Hot towels open the pores and soften the beard. Pre-shave oil and a thick layer of warm lather follow. Then the razor — passed once with the grain, then again across it, with hot towels between passes.
The shave itself takes ten minutes. The ceremony around it takes thirty. That’s the point.
